Zenergy Ball ChairZen has been described as a state of focused energy that brings together mind and body as one. Seeking this higher state of enlightenment, Safco is attempting to fill your work space with a “vibrant energy that also brings a sense of calm” with their new Zenergy Ball Chair.
Looks like one of those large exercise balls that you see in the gym, was our first thought. And in fact, that’s exactly what it is, albeit upholstered in a thick mesh fabric and perched atop four short, sturdy steel legs mounted to stationary glides for stability. Safco promotes the Zenergy Ball Chair design as providing “a little zip in your sit by allowing movement that not only helps you sit comfortably, but also helps you concentrate and support better posture and balance.”

They also offer that “this movement keeps your mind open while keeping your body actively engaged.” And the benefits of pulling one of these up to your desk? According to the company, “this active engagement can potentially help strengthen core muscles and allow
natural fidgeting that studies have shown help increase calorie burn.” Strengthen core?….burn calories?…. keep mind engaged? O.K., we’re in. Bring on the Ball!
The lack of a back worried us initially. Where would the support for our lower back come from? No adjustments for height, no swivel capability? Also concerns. And that red mesh is a little, ummm…bright.
After spending several hours a day for nearly a month seated on this little feller, we can honestly say it’s surprisingly comfortable. The fixed height didn’t pose a problem, as it seemed just right for all of our testers. No swivel? No problem.
You just use your legs to reposition yourself when needed. No back? Who needs it, amazingly enough we never experienced stiffness or fatigue as our own bodies seemed to adjust and put our cores to work to balance ourselves in a comfortable position. And guilty pleasure – sometimes it’s fun to kind roll around atop the ball and we never fell off once.
Overall, the Safco Zenergy Ball Chair provided a comfortable and engaging sitting experience. It’s not for sitting in all day, so don’t dump your everyday chair, but it makes for a fun and engaging change of pace. You actually do feel your core muscles at work and I always felt more alert when working on it. It’s well made and the heavy duty mesh fabric looks like it would stand the test of time.
As for the bright red, I have to admit it really grew on me. (No worries, it’s available in black and other colors as well.)
When the time came to give back my sample, I pleaded to keep it. If that’s not a positive endorsement for this little wonder, then I don’t know what is. Namaste.
