Who knew HON has been green for so long? Leslie Stoneking, CISP Solutions Account Associate at the HON Company sure does. She's our guest blogger today and does she know green.
Did You Know…?
Green is not just our favorite color; it has been part of our philosophy from
the start, and at the core of everything we do.
2006 HON became the world’s first office
manufacturer to have product certified by the Indoor Advantage program.
1947 HON began making card files from
pieces of scrap metal generated from its contracted business.
27,000 gallons of wet paint is recycled
at HON manufacturing locations annually.
100 tons of fabric waste is saved from
landfills every year by recycling bales of scrap.
75% of our products have achieved level
certification based on the ANSI/BIMA e3 Sustainable Furniture
Way to go HON. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Leslie and remember reuse, recycle and reclaim.
Good Ergonomics Equals Good Economics
Many companies bemoan the extra cost in updating furniture and equipment for their employees, rather succumbing to the temptation of reusing or recycling old resources at the expense of safety and comfort. In the end, they may be paying more for this than they realize. There is a great value in implementing on ergonomic improvement process! And here is why:
Some of the financial benefits for improving your office space ergonomically include:
. Lower injury rates and MSD (muscular-skeletal disorder) incidences
. Reduction in human and company costs associated with MSD's
. Improved worker safety and increased comfort
. Increased productivity from making jobs easier and more comfortable for employees
. Improved product quality - studies show that frustrated and fatigued workers don't do their best work
. Reduced absences because workers will be less likely to take time off due to soreness and fatigue and other MSD-related injuries
. Less turnover as workers are more likely to find an ergonomically designed job more satisfying and within their physical capabilities
. Increased morale leading to an overall better environment for workplace productivity: workers will be relieved to see that the company is serious about eliminating ergonomic risk factors in the workplace and more likely to perform their best
Ultimately, ergonomics not only plays an important role in building a culture of safety, health and wellness; it also proves to be cost effective for a company in the long run. After all, the goal of ergonomics is to boost productivity by increasing employee performance and comfort and reducing injuries and errors. Companies that attend to their employees' comfort and health are rewarded with greater work performance and job loyalty.
